Bennett Christmas is one of Sussex's most successful independent insurance brokers.
As with many of our clients, Bennett Christmas had been using Small Business Server 2003, Windows XP and Office 2003 to provide the IT resources for the business. With support for these packages nearing expiry, we suggested a major change.
We recommended a move from Windows XP to Windows 7, which meant replacing 29 PCs and also a move to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft Office 365. This of course meant moving all email from the in-house Exchange server to the Microsoft Cloud.
We also provided an upgraded internet connection to enhance the reliability and usability of cloud based services.
A new HP ProLiant Server was installed. Using the ability of Server 2012 with Essentials Experience role installed, the Office 365 accounts and Server 2012 accounts were linked together. All the new PCs were built to a standard configuration and added to the new domain.
Careful preparation meant that the old system was shut down on Friday afternoon, and over the weekend the new PCs and server were commissioned. Data was moved from the old server and on Monday morning it was business as usual.
All users can now access their email from anywhere without relying on the office server or broadband. Everyone has the same version of Microsoft Office and benefit from the reliability and security offered by up to date software and operating systems. An additional benefit of the Office 365 monthly subscription was lower capital expenditure for the project.
